Eric George is an American medical doctor, best known as a hand surgeon. He is the founder and CEO of ERG Enterprises, Omega Hospital and The Hand Center of Louisiana in New Orleans. He is also a real estate investor and philanthropist.

Medical Career

Eric George grew up in Huntington, West Virginia, and graduated from Marshall University with a double-major in chemistry and political science. After being accepted to both medical school and law school, George decided to become a medical doctor and was trained in orthopaedic hand surgery. George is a graduate of Marshall University's School of Medicine in 1989, completed a General Trauma Surgery Residency at Michigan State University and a Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Grand Rapids Area Medical Education Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Subsequently, he completed an Orthopedic Hand and Upper Extremity Reconstructive Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. He is board-certified and holds a certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand.

George is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. George has published articles in academic journals including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and The American Surgeon.

George acquired Omega Hospital in 2005, located in Metairie, Louisiana, and begun a "luxury hospital" in 1999, where "the patient rooms (which are private) are stocked with plush robes, flat-screen TVs, a minibar and a microwave," according to New Orleans Living magazine. George also owns and runs the Hand Center of Louisiana, where he's an active surgeon. At his facility he also uses non-invasive treatment methods that don't require invasive surgery, like xiaflex enzymes to erode inhibitive tissue build-ups like Dupuytren's contracture.

Business activities

In 2009, George was a part of an investment team that purchased the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. George has a large number of real estate and business ventures including Tipitina's Music Club, Studionetworks rehearsal studios, and a residential development in Aspen, Colorado. He is additionally the owner of a pineapple farm in Panama and several assisted-living facilities in the state of Louisiana. In addition to his role as CEO of Omega Hospital, he is President and CEO of Erg Enterprises and C-Dot Aviation. In 2011 George attempted to purchase the Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre when the theatre fell into financial disorder, however his bid wasn't successful. Dr. George recently purchased the historic Orpheum Theater in New Orleans with plans to renovate and return the Orpheum Theater to its former glory. ERG Enterprises LLC an investment capital company owned by Dr. George has closed on $18 million renovation project of the Pythian building in New Orleans. ERG Enterprises expands holdings to the fast growing Gulch area of Nashville, Tennessee with a major investment in the Thompson Hotel which is opening the Fall of 2016. George has additionally founded and supplied a grade school in the city of Mombassa, Kenya.
