History

The Western Australian Parliament received many proposals for high schools located south of the river during the 1920s but a lack of funding was largely due to depression meant schools did not materialize. In 1932, a survey was conducted to find that 410 primary school age children live in the area of South Perth and Victoria Park. The construction of the first building began in 1939 and the school started operations known as Kent Street Central School in 1940 with 354 students.

The school building is a listed heritage and is described as a classic inter-free style brick building complex and tile and lawn buildings.

The school has a famous cricket heritage. School teams have entered the Cricket High Cricket Australia carnival, won in Brisbane 1994, and in Melbourne 2000 and 2005. The school hosted a carnival in 1996, 2001 and 2006.
