Soundview is a working class neighborhood geographically located in the Clason Point section of the Bronx region of New York City. The environment is part of the Bronx Community Board 9. The boundaries, starting from the North and moving clockwise are the Cross-Bronx Expressway to the North, White Plains Road to the East, Lacombe Avenue to the South, and the Bronx River to the West. The Bruckner Toll divides the two environments horizontally along the center and the Bronx River Parkway runs north to south. Soundview Avenue is the main road through Soundview. The local subway is 6 and & lt; 6 & gt; , operating along Westchester Avenue. Postal codes include 10472 and 10473. This area is patrolled by 43th Precinct located on 900 Fteley Avenue. New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) property in the area is patrolled by P.S.A. 8 at 2794 Randall Avenue in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx. Studio for News 12 Bronx is located here.

Demographics
Soundview is a neighborhood on the eastern edge of the Bronx Community Board 9, with a population density of about 45,000 per square mile (excluding Soundview Park, about 53,000 per square mile). The land area is approximately 1.3 square miles. The neighborhood is composed mostly of Latin America (mainly Puerto Rico) and African Americans and has a mix of moderate single-family homes, low-income buildings and expensive condominiums. Most of the buildings in this section have the same requirements as the buildings in Co-op City.

Usage and terrain
Most of the residents in Soundview are inside large residential complexes of various types. These include public housing, high-rise cooperatives and rentals. This environment contains one of the highest concentrations of the NYCHA project in the Bronx. There are also 5 and 6 stories, before the war, apartment buildings mainly concentrated along the El Pelham Line IRT on Westchester Avenue and multi-unit row houses located throughout the neighborhood. Beginning in the 1990s, the construction of modern 2 and 3-line apartment houses and apartment buildings has increased the percentage of owners versus tenants.
The northern and eastern border of the neighborhood has a high concentration of commercial firms. Westchester Avenue evolved into a mixed use area, primarily commercial, serving the wider region after the completion of the elevated Pelham Line IRT.
The total land area is about 1.3 square miles. Low and flat plains.
Bruckner Plaza
Bruckner Plaza, which grew enormously throughout the 1990s, divides Soundview from adjacent Castle Hill and contains large box stores like Toys R Us, Kmart, and Old Navy. Other major highways contain limited facilities but are needed such as supermarkets, pharmacies, barbers, hair salons, fast food, bodegas, and inexpensive shops.
The western edge of the neighborhood built along the Bronx River is mostly industry in use.
Garden
Soundview Park occupies a significant land area in the southwestern part of the neighborhood (approximately 0.2 square miles), with soccer fields and playgrounds and pedestrian/bike green paths along the left bank of the Bronx River estuary from Lafayette Avenue to Leland Avenue.
"Parque de los Ninos" was recently awarded $ 1.6 million for renovation. The playground on the street corner of Morrison and Watson opened in 1956 and was named in 1995 to honor the six children of the neighbors who were killed in the late 80s.

History
Until the 1940s, the environment was relatively undeveloped. Most of the housing, especially multi-unit shacks and apartment-style apartment buildings, have been built near the Pelham highway on Westchester Avenue and along main streets like Soundview Avenue (once served by tram). In 1941 Clason Point Gardens was the first construction built by NYCHA in the Bronx. This was followed by many other low and high NYCHA developments in the neighborhoods of the 1950s to the 1970s, which increased the population significantly. During the 1950s, two access controlled highways, the Bronx River Parkway and the Bruckner Expressway, were built. Later in the 1970s, large apartment complexes and co-op apartment complexes flourished throughout the neighborhood, under the badge of the Old Mitchell program.
Like the neighboring Hunts Point, Soundview began falling into rapid decay in the 1970s due to white flights, increased poverty rates, and fiscal crisis across the city. Abandonment is a problem because the exodus picked up speed but many of the non-Hispanic White populations were quickly replaced by the poor and Latin American and African American class workers. As a result, neglect is wider than in the western environment including Morrisania. The environment was deeply affected by the crack epidemic throughout the late 1980s and early 90s, establishing total annual killings among the highest in the city. During that time, Weed and Seed programs were enacted by the federal government to improve the situation in Soundview, near Mott Haven, and New York East, Brooklyn and Impact Operations to come. Methods of policing including the NYPD monitor CCTV along well known drug trafficking areas, increase foot availability, and improve statistical mapping.
In recent years, the housing crisis throughout the city spurred the construction of multi-unit row houses and modern apartment buildings. Many of them are multi-categorized for retail and have mixed income qualifications. There is also research conducted to develop this type of housing on vacant land within the boundaries of NYCHA properties along with significant renovations and improvements to existing land and buildings. Soundview Park, built on the former and largest landfill in the Southern Bronx, has undergone a complete transformation including improved pedestrian access and recreation areas that have been completely renovated and redesigned. Future plans according to the PlaNYC initiative will create an urban oasis in this densely populated community; complete with recreational nodes, Greenway connections, bike/hiking trails, designated fishing areas, boat launches, and open fields with views of the horizon. The environment has become increasingly diverse with the increase in Latin American immigration varying in recent years. Crime has also seen significant declines as a result of a number of factors including improving policing techniques and changing economic demographics.
In 1999, a gunman, Amadou Diallo, was shot and killed by 4 plainclothes officers near the corner of Wheeler and Westchester Avenue.
