John Thomas "Tommy" Ahlquist III (born January 25, 1968) is a business owner, commercial real estate developer, and retired doctor from the State of Idaho. He is a Republican nomination nominee for the Idaho Governor in the 2018 Idaho governor's election.

Early life and education
Ahlquist was born on January 25, 1968, in Hunter, Utah, and grew up on a small family farm. Both Ahlquist grandfathers work for Kennecott Copper. His father worked as an electrician when he was young and then as a construction manager for a major commercial project. Her mother has had her own preschool for nearly forty years.
He earned his Eagle Scout Award at the age of thirteen, and then attracted national attention by being one of only a few Scouts in the history of the American Boy Scouts program to get all 121 marks of merit.
Ahlquist attended Cyprus High School where he participated in athletics and student governance. He earned several awards for academic excellence and leadership. After high school, the Ahlquist moved to Rexburg, Idaho to attend Ricks College where he played basketball and studied pre-med.
He left school in 1987 to serve as an LDS missionary in Brazil. Upon his return in 1989, he enrolled at the University of Utah, where he managed the Pediatric Intensive Care Research Laboratory at the university while in school. He graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in biology and a minor in chemistry in 1992. Ahlquist continued to study medicine at the University of Utah, graduating as Doctor of Medicine in 1996.

Personal life
Ahlquist is married to Shanna Mullins, her high school lover. They have four children.
He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and serves as stake president at the North Idaho Meridian Mound of the LDS Church from 27 October 2013, until 4 February 2017.
Medical career
Ahlquist completed an emergency medical residence at the University of Arizona in 1999. While there, he served as the chief resident and was awarded for the Resident of the Year award. He is a board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. After the residency, Ahlquist began working as a doctor in charge of Boise, Idaho for St. Health Systems. Luke and has worked in the emergency room throughout the state of Idaho for over 15 years.
Early in his career as an emergency room physician (UG), Ahlquist saw the need for improved care for victims of sexual violence and abuse. After local law enforcement and district attorneys formed the FACES of Hope Victim Center in Boise, Ahlquist went on to serve as chair of the Foundation for several years. Recently, the Ahlquist and the political action committee (PAC) supported his campaign for the governor has been criticized for claiming he founded the Victims Center even though there is no evidence of this.
Ahlquist founded a Public Access Defibrillator Service, STAT PADS LLC in 2001.
Seeing the need for affordable health care for working families, in collaboration with Idaho State University, Ahlquist opened a primary care and care clinic in Meridian, Idaho.
Ahlquist retires from full-time work as an emergency room doctor by 2014.

Developer career
In 2006, Ahlquist founded Ahlquist Development and started commercial real estate.
After developing several smaller buildings, Ahlquist Development partnered with Gardner Company. Their first major development was Portico di Meridian, a 7, 328,000 square foot building, a mixed-use project in Meridian Idaho. Various projects are followed in Treasure Valley including St. Luke's Medical Plaza at Nampa, West Valley Medical Complex at Caldwell, Library Square at Nampa, Eagle Island Crossing and Mace River Ranch in Eagle, and Twin Falls Surgery Center in Twin Falls. {{Cn | date = March 2018
In 2011, Ahlquist Development joined Gardner Company and several important projects have been followed. Many in the state of Idaho are familiar with "Boise Hole" in corner 8 and Main, which, for 25 years, serves as a reminder of its previous failure. Led by the Ahlquist, Gardner Company manages to fill the hole with the tallest building in Idaho, Bank Zion Building.
Gardner Company followed it with a Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza of 400,000 square feet in Boise. The project includes underground transit centers, new retail, an expanded convention center, the Department of Computer Science at Boise State University, and corporate headquarters for Clearwater Analytics.
In 2016, the Ahlquist leads the creation of a new division of Gardner Company that focuses on sustainability of care for the elderly through self-sustaining, life-assisted and skilled life care facilities that are all tied to the local health system, called Veranda Senior Living.

Ahlquist has served on several community boards and subcommittees, some of them: Family Advocates, United Way from Treasure Valley, YMCA, Boys & amp; Girls Club, American Boy Scouts Board of Ore-Ida Board, Treasure Valley Leadership Alliance, Boise Valley Economic Cooperation, Idaho Technology Boards, Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Council of President of Idaho University, Advisory Board of Arizona University Emergency Medical Research Center, American Heart Association , March of Dimes, Go Red for Women, and FACES of Hope Victims Center.
Politics
The Ahlquist was a finalist for the opening of the Idaho State Education Board in July 2014 when Milford Terrell announced that he was resigning earlier than his term. David Hill, previously with the Idaho National Laboratory, received the appointment.
He founded Idaho 2020 in 2014. This bipartisan think tank brings together business leaders from across Idaho to focus on the challenges facing the country. In 2015, the group invests in infrastructure and develops advice for leaders and members of parliament. In 2016, in collaboration with the Boise State University Policy Institute, the group studied transportation in Idaho and recently published its results.
2016 Presidential Election
Ahlquist supports Marco Rubio in the Republican presidential preliminary election, 2016 and serves to have a co-chair of finance for Idaho. He does not support President Donald Trump in general elections and writes in Marco Rubio.
Idaho 2018 Governor Race
On March 1, 2017, the Ahlquist announced its candidacy for the Idaho governor's election. The slogan is "a conservative blueprint for building a better Idaho". The three main platforms are improving health care gaps, economic development, and Idisa education. On September 5, 2017, he added the ethics board/Term limits. He toured the 97-point Idaho to start his campaign, which he completed in May 2017.

Ahlquist took third only get 26.2% compared to Ra̮'̼l Labrador which is 32.6% and the main winner of Republican Idaho Brad Little (politician) who got 37.3%.
