This arrangement was provided by the Michigan Constitution of 1963 to almost all state universities, three exceptions being the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Wayne State University. The Supervisory Board appoints and reviews President of Central Michigan University, currently George E. Ross. The President regulates the policies established by the board and serves ex officio on board as a non-voting member. The Supervisory Board also controls the university's finances, including tuition, fees, and budgets, and university policies, from missions and goals to faculties and tenure to athletics and academics to acceptance and program. It mentions facilities and groups and receives a gift from a large donor, among several tasks and powers it has. Student life

Life residence

Central Michigan University is home to 22 campus dormitories, organized in four areas throughout the campus. In 2006, the hostel's 21 and 22 chambers opened in the Eastern complex.

  • North Living Hall: Larzelere, Trout, Calkins, Robinson, Barnes
  • South House Hall: Beddow, Merrill, Thorpe, Sweeney
  • East Residence Hall: Saxe, Herrig, Woldt, Emmons; Celani and Fabiano
  • The Towers: Carey, Cobb, Troutman, and Wheeler ("The Original Towers"), Campbell, Kesseler, and Kulhavi ("The New Towers"))

All the residence halls except for the few rooms of the remaining Barnes Hall, Robinson Hall, Celani, Fabiano and Towers are two bedroom suites designed for 4 or 5 people. The Original Towers, a ninth-floor boarding house designed especially for new students, has a one-bedroom suite. The New Towers, as well as Fabiano and Celani, are designed primarily for seniors, and four-room suites. Robinson Hall and the original Barnes section are the only residences designed for double occupancy. The residents of both New Towers, Celani, Fabiano, pay additional fees for standard rooms and board rates.

Each district is connected to one of the four Residential Restaurants. The Towers show RFoC, or Real Food on Campus, and East Complex featuring Fresh Food Company. Each area also has a snack shop after opening hours. Only Barnes Hall, the oldest meetinghouse in CMU, is not directly connected to a residential restaurant. The original part of Barnes Hall is also the only part of the dorm on the campus that has a community bathroom.

Some of the residence halls are designated as official Residential Colleges, which are associated with specific academic departments, allowing students who choose to live there opportunities to study and collaborate with other students of similar programs.

  • Calkins Hall - Business
  • Herrig Hall - Music
  • Emmons Hall - Health Professions
  • Woldt Hall - Science and Engineering
  • Sweeney Hall - Education and Human Services
  • Larzelere Hall - Awards Program
  • Barnes Hall - Leadership Progress Scholarship & amp; Community Residential Services
  • Troutman Hall - Multicultural Advancement/Cofer Scholars

CMU only offers a shared living space, with Sweeney Hall transforming from women only in the fall of 2010. Since the fall of 2005 semester, Calkins Hall, home of the Business housing campus, is co-educational, after a long history of being a women only. Other residential halls are well coordinated by buildings or floors. In the fall of 2007, Beddow and Thorpe Halls became bewildered by the decline of students asking to live in single-gender dormitories. In the fall of 2008, Merrill Hall was added as a communal residence hall, leaving Sweeney Hall the only one of the same gender hall on campus.

Construction began in two more buildings, Celani and Fabiano, near the East Quad in the spring of 2005. The building is somewhat similar in design to New Towers which opened in 2003. On December 1, 2005, one of the buildings was named The Ben and Marion Celani Residence hall to recognize the generosity of Detroit area businessman Thomas Celani and his wife Vicki. On April 20, 2006, the remaining building was named Fabiano Family Residence Hall, recognizing their contribution to school. John S. Fabiano served on the 1999-2004 supervisory board, and also owns Fabiano Brothers Inc., an alcohol distribution company. Two new spaces were opened for the fall of 2006, along with a new Residential Restaurant to serve residents from six East Area halls.
