Charles Rozell " Chuck " Swindoll (born October 18, 1934) is an evangelical Christian pastor, author, educator, and radio preachers. He founded Insight for Life, headquartered in Frisco, Texas, which airs radio programs of the same name in over 2,000 stations worldwide in 15 languages. He is currently a senior pastor at Stonebriar Community Church, in Frisco, Texas.

Charles Rozell Swindoll was born on October 18, 1934, at El Campo in Wharton County, Texas, the third of three children born to Earl and Lovell Swindoll. She studied at Charles H. Milby High School in Houston. He praised his drama teacher, Dick Nieme, for helping him overcome his severe stuttering. As a member of the marching band and orchestra, he learned to play all the instruments in the woodwind section, although the saxophone remains the primary tool. After graduating from high school, he studied mechanical engineering while working for Reed Roller Bit Company in Houston, Texas. Swindoll then fulfilled his military service obligations with the United States Marine Corps, first in San Francisco, then on the Japanese island of Okinawa. After his honorable return in 1959, he attended the Dallas Theological Seminary, where he graduated magna cum laude four years later.

Careers

Swindoll was ordained a ministry in 1963 and served in Dallas, under J., Dwight Pentecost, for two years. Since then he has held senior pastoral positions in Waltham, Massachusetts (1965-1967), Irving, Texas (1967-71), and Fullerton, California (1971-94). He started his senior pastor at Frisco, Texas in 1998.

Swindoll is the founder of Insights for Life , which produces radio programs of the same name on Christian and non-Christian radio stations around the world. This program is heard in over 2000 stations and also webcast and is translated into several languages. The roots returned to the summer of 1977, when Swindoll's sermons from the First Evangelical Church at Fullerton were broadcast on radio. In 1979 the radio station began; his office is now in Frisco.

In July 1994, Swindoll became president of Dallas Theological Seminary and now serves as his chancellor. He is the author of over 70 books, largely based on his research and preparations for sermons preached every Sunday. In its 50th anniversary celebration, Christianity Today produced an article calling Swindoll one of 25 most influential preachers in the last 50 years (1956-2006).

In 1998 Swindoll founded the Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. The first church held a service at Collin County Community College (now Collin College), then moved to his permanent home on Legendary Drive. The congregation is growing rapidly from several hundred members to several thousand people in the first few years and this growth has necessitated a massive expansion of today's facilities. Construction for additional starts in 2005. Many pastors in Stonebriar are graduates of Dallas Theological Seminary, and the church is well known for its missionary work in India and elsewhere. Although Swindoll is still considered a preacher to the Evangelical Free Church of America, the Stonebriar Community Church is not affiliated with any particular denomination.
