Timothy Leif " TJ " Oshie (born December 23, 1986) is a professional American hockey winger for the Washington Capital in the National Hockey League (NHL ). He was chosen by St. Louis Blues in the first round of 2005 Entry Draft NHL, as a 24th overall choice. He attended Everett High School before moving after his first year. He then spent the first seven years of his NHL career with the Blues before trading to Washington Capitals in 2015. Oshie won his first Stanley Cup with Capitals in 2018.

Initial years
Born in Mount Vernon, Washington, Oshie grew up in Everett, north of Seattle, and was on ice at the age of five in the Seattle Junior Hockey Association, where he played for ten years. After his parents' divorce, he lived in Stanwood with his mother, Tina, and attended Stanwood High School for his first year. In 2002, Oshie moved to Warroad, Minnesota, where his parents came from, and lived with his father, Tim, and his father's cousin.
He attended Warroad High School, where he was a star player in the hockey team for three seasons, leading the club to two Minnesota State Class A titles in 2003 and 2005. He made the All-Tournament Team state all three years. With 100 points (37 goals and 63 assists) in 31 matches as a senior, he leads all Minnesota high school players in judgment, later named by the 2005 Associated Press Team and Pioneer Press All-State First and ends as Mr. Minnesota. At the end of his senior season with the Warriors in 2004-05, he joined Sioux Falls Stampede from the Hockey League United States (USHL) for 11 games. Out of season, he was chosen 24th overall by St. Louis Blues in 2005 Draft Entrance NHL.

Play career
Amateur
After the design, Oshie played for North Dakota University men's ice hockey team at the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) for three seasons. Scoring 24 goals as a new player, he added 21 assists for a total of 45 points. He also set a school record with nine winning goals in the game, which also led all NCAA players. At the end of his debut season, he was named the WCHA All-Rookie Team and the WCHA Final Five-Team Team.
In the second year, Oshie increased to 52 points (17 goals and 35 assists), ranked second in the team's assessment. She gets the Third Team All-WCHA and receives Cliff's Sioux, the "Fido" Purpur Award, awarded to players who show hard work and determination while raising fervor on the ice. After the WCHA North Dakota playoff run, Oshie led all the players with eight points (four goals and four assists) at the 2006 NCAA Tournament, awarded NCAA West All-Tournament. He played his last season with North Dakota as junior, scoring 45 points in 42 games.
St. Louis Blues
On May 13, 2008, Oshie chose to leave his senior season in North Dakota and sign a contract with St. Louis Blues. He scored his first NHL career goal on October 22, 2008, against Detroit Red Wings. Oshie quickly became a fan favorite because of his fast and energetic style of play. Playing in 57 games, he scored 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points during his rookie year. At the end of the season, he won the 2008-09 NHL award "Goal of the Year", a fan selection contest on the NHL website.
Oshie broke his ankle in a fight with Samuel PÃÆ' Â¥ hlsson during a blowout loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the start of the 2010-11 season, sidelined three months through injury.
In 2013-14, Oshie has 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 career highs.
Washington Capital
On July 2, 2015, Oshie was traded by the Blues to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley and third round draft pick in 2016. Oshie wore 77 for the Capital, having previously used the 74 number at this time. by defenseman Capitals John Carlson.
Oshie had his first successful season with the capital, often finding himself playing on Capitals' top line with Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas BÃÆ'¤ckstrÃÆ'¶m. Oshie finished the season with 51 points helping the team win their second Presidential Cup. During Game 1 of the Capitals' second round series against Pittsburgh Penguins, Oshie scored a hat trick, the third goal coming in overtime, giving the Capitals a 4-3 win. On June 23, 2017, after a season in which he scored 33 goals, Oshie signed an eight-year contract, $ 46 million with an annual average of $ 5.75 million to stay with the Capitals.
On June 7, 2018, Capital outpaced the Vegas Golden Knights' first-year expansion in five games to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history. Oshie completed the postseason with eight goals and 21 points in 24 games.
International game
Oshie represented the United States at the 2006 Junior World Championships in Vancouver. After the Blues elimination in the 2009 Stanley Cup playoffs, he received his first senior national team call for the 2009 World Championships IIHF, also competed in the 2010 Championship, scoring four goals and two assists in six games. In 2012, he is the last addition of the American roster after the Blues were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in 2012.

Osh is a hockey player. Obviously, he brings energy and he does all those things, but in the simplest terms, he likes to play. He likes to be around people all the time. He enjoyed the battle, he enjoyed the competition, and he did it with a smile on his face, you know?
Oshie himself hopes his approach to hockey inspires others:
I think you just enjoyed the competition in the playoffs. I think that's the most fun part of our sport is when everyone gives the best and that's your opposite to another man. Sometimes, it's not always a skill. It was just a desire to win the battle, and I do not know, for some reason, it got me going. It makes me excited. When I play like that, I hope this can be an inspiration for some younger people or even others who can see it.
Personal life
Oshie has three siblings, Taylor's brother and two sisters, Tawni and Aleah Hangsleben. He attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks for three years, majoring in general studies. His first cousin, Gary Sargent, and his second cousin, Henry Boucha, play in the NHL. Oshie and his wife Lauren Cosgrove Oshie have two daughters, Lyla and Leni.
Oshie is from Anishinaabe or Ojibwe Nation; his name is in Ojibwe, or Anishnaabemowin, "Keeway Gaaboo," meaning "Coming Home." Giiwe translates roughly as "s/he back home." If the -aaboo in Gaaboo refers to water, then this name can evoke a poetic image of water that, traveling downhill will surely find its way back to a larger water body, such as the Great Lakes or the ocean. His father is Anishnaabe.
According to a 2009 interview, the nickname "T.J." given to him by his mother after he saw the movie The Champ , because Oshie reminded him of the son of the main character, named T.J. Flynn.
