Robert Lee Newton (born August 16, 1949) is a former American footballer in the NFL from 1971 to 1981.

Higher Education
Newton went to Cerritos junior college, Norwalk Ca. for the first two years of college and then received a scholarship from the University of Nebraska. Newton was recruited by Nebraska assistant coach Tom Osborne and was one of the first recruits to ever attend Nebraska from California. His first season was 1969 and Huskers went 9-2 and was the Big Eight Co-champions and Sun Bowl Champions. In 1970 Bob was a member of the team from the undefeated University of Nebraska soccer team, who won the 1970 National Championship by defeating LSU 17-12 at the Orange Bowl and trained by Bob Devaney.
During Bob's Nebraska football experience, he achieved the following: Unanimous All-Big 8 offensive tackle 1970, University of Nebraska, Consensus All-American Offensive Tackle 1970 University of Nebraska, National Championship University of Nebraska 1970. Nominated by 4 times in 1970 for the Big Eight midfielders of the week. 1989 inaugurated to the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.2014 inaugurated to the California Junior College football Hall of Fame [Cerritos College]. Elected in the football team of All Century Nebraska, 2000. Elected as one of the 48-year-old Nebraska University's top players, Bleacher reports 2013. Recently was selected by Huskers Online as one of the top four offensive attacks in Nebraska football history. Played in 1971 Senior Bowl, 1971 Coached the All-American game and the 1971 College All Star against the Baltimore Colts Super Bowl Champions.
Professional career
Played for Chicago Bears, 1971-75 and with NFL Hall of Fame players, Dick Butkus, Gale Sayers and Walter Payton. Played for Seattle Seahawks, 1976-81 with Steve Largent Team's Hall of Fame. Newton was on the Seattle Seahawks 1976 expansion team that helped start the franchise. He is the draft draft of the third round of the Chicago Bears and is moved from an offensive attack to keep his rookie year. He earned 1980 Seahawks Lineman of the Year. In 1983 Bob had a brief playing experience with Boston Breakers and Chicago Blitz from USFL, but his chemical addiction forced him to leave both teams.

July 1983 Bob enters the Valley General Hospital treatment center, Monroe Wa. for chemical dependence. After treatment, he returned to the University of Nebraska to finish his education and in 1986 he began working in the field of chemical dependence. He has more than 30 years of experience as a counselor, educator, administrator and professional speaker. Newton has worked for the Betty Ford center for many years as an advisor and chief executive. He has also served as a lead receptivity facilitator for the Young Adult Track (YAT) Center at the Betty Ford Center.
