Following Exam
Historically, exams have been taken either at conferences like "Enterprise Data World" in the United States or "Corporate Data and Business Intelligence" in the UK. Individuals who wish to take the exam can also arrange to do so through DAMA International and the administrator for certification, ICCP.
The remote testing option using web-cam proctoring or direct proctoring by a recognized CDMP proctor (all DAMA International members) allows flexibility in taking the exam.
Trials are taken in Computer Based Testing format, with varying levels of individual per-exam questions. Candidates can take several exams at once.
The format of the exam is open to criticism because it can be difficult for individuals in countries without Chapter DAMA or access to Proctor to take the exam. In addition, the requirement for exam candidates to use the USB key provided by ICCP to run the exam software also raises concerns and difficulties from an Information Security perspective.
In October 2015, DAMA International indicated that the format for the exam will change with the re-launch of CDMP certification.
Retain Certification
CDMP holders should engage in continuous professional development to maintain their certification. In general, these requirements can be met through attendance at the Data Management conference, attendance at DAMA Chapter meetings, contributions to the development of knowledge bodies, and other activities that support the professional development of CDMP holders and contribute to the development of the Knowledge Board.
The CDMP holder must recertify every three years.
Historically, the recertification was given on behalf of DAMA International by ICCP. In October 2015, DAMA International indicated that it will be responsible for the re-certification process and will issue a revised format for re-certification as part of the CDMP certification restructuring.

Historically, CDMP "Bootcamp" has been offered at DAMA-sponsored Data Management worldwide conferences or awards, and through DAMA Chapters, to facilitate candidates in their preparation for the exam.
As part of the CDMP certification update, DAMA has indicated that the "Training Boot" sessions should be revised (to reflect revised CDMP content) and be branded as "Exam and Testing Exam" sessions, and that this session will be subject to quality control with respect to content, how to send, and qualify the person delivering the session.
List of Commercial Training Providers offering CDMP courses
These courses are offered by private companies and are not affiliated with or approved by DAMA International, and each course can not cover the full coverage of CDMP. This is not a complete list.
