Legacy House is a non-profit assisted living facility run by the Chinatown International District's Public Development Association of Seattle (SCIDpda). It was built in 1998 in response to the growing need for affordable, culturally diverse services around the Seattle China-International District to accommodate its senior population. Legacy House is the only assisted living facility in Seattle that emphasizes serving one hundred percent of Asian and Pacific Island clients. Their staff speaks more than 15 Asian languages ââto help residents communicate better and serve the low-income members of the Asian community in Seattle exclusively. Many of their members have become pioneers of the Seattle-Asian-American community.
Legacy House also offers an adult day service, serving over one hundred seniors who come for a portion of the day. In addition, they also run group activities such as bingo, mahjong, dance classes, and tai chi. One of the main features of this facility is that they serve traditional Asian cuisine every day and celebrate the celebrations of all the cultures of the population. The heritage house is also a sophisticated clinical facility and provides occupational therapy for clients with stroke, gout, arthritis and mental health counseling for clients who are physically and mentally unstable. The Legacy House is built next to Denise's Early Childhood Education Center with the belief that developing intergenerational relationships will benefit the elderly and children. The elderly have an opportunity to mingle with children next door through activities to facilitate togetherness among generations.
