The Ohlone Community College District is a single college district with two expanding campuses and e-campuses.
Officially named Ohlone College on June 18, 1967, it honored the early Ohlone who lived in the Fremont and Newark regions and much around the San Francisco Bay for hundreds of years before the arrival of Europeans.
A Supervisory Board was elected in 1966, which subsequently employed the founding president, Dr. Stephen Epler, in June 1966. The college opened in the fall of 1967 at Serra Center, a temporary site on Washington Boulevard. Eventually college went to the community for a $ 10 million bond and in 1972 began construction of the new Ohlone College campus at Mission Boulevard in Fremont.
Ernest J. Kump designed nine original buildings that form an academic village. Buildings were added later to the campus including the performing arts center, technology center, child development center and student service center. The second campus was built in Newark, CA, The Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology, which opened in 2008.
