Emeritus Corporation doing business as Emeritus Senior Living is a provider of independent living, life assisted, Alzheimer/memory care, and skilled nursing for seniors living in Emeritus communities across the United States.. The company was founded in 1993, and was acquired by Brookdale Senior Living (the largest company in the industry at the time) in July 2014 after a $ 23 million punitive damages against him in a civil suit in 2013.
Emeritus specializes in assisted living services for the elderly who need help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating and management of medicines. Most communities also provide expert care for Alzheimer's patients and memory care, and offer rest periods for seniors who need short-term residence. Controversy
An episode of Frontline that aired on July 30, 2013 documented alleged neglect and physical abuse committed to the patient by Emeritus. In a civil lawsuit, Joan Boice et al v. Emeritus Corporation, a Sacramento, California jury found Emeritus responsible for negligence that seems to result in the death of a patient in 2009; the judge rated the company $ 23 million in damages. After the broadcast, Emeritus created a website to dispute the allegations.
