Mary Florence Woody (March 31, 1926 - April 28, 2010) is an American nurse, hospital administrator and university professor. She works as a nursing director at two major hospitals and nursing school deans or associate deans at Auburn University and Emory University. He was designated as the Living Legend of the American Nursing Academy.

Biography

Woody was born in LaFayette, Alabama. He has five older siblings. Woody completed Cadet Nurse Corps training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Columbia University. Woody was a nurse at the hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, and New York City before moving to Emory University Hospital.

At Grady Memorial Hospital, Woody spent several years as director of nursing. In 1979, he became dean of a founding nursing school at Auburn University. From 1984 to 1993, he returned to Emory University Hospital as a director of nursing and he is the dean of the university nursing school association.

Woody advocated for the integration of professional associations in nursing. He led the integration of the American Nurses Association.

In 1997, the American Nursing Academy recognized Woody as a living legend, the highest honor. He was inducted into the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame in 2008. Woody died in 2010 of congestive heart failure at assisted living facilities in Decatur, Georgia.
